Warehouse party supreme Mulletover turns 7 this weekend and will be celebrating with a birthday extravaganza featuring Reboot, Efdemin, Dixon and Ame, among many others. We caught up with the co-founder of one of London’s longest running club nights, Geddes.

How did Mulletover come about?

It was something I decided to do purely to play the records I was buying at the time. Being young and innocent it was hard to break through and get noticed. I gathered this was the best path for me to take.

Looking back over the last 7 years, what have the highs and lows been?

The first 4 years were tough, we were running the parties monthly and we never knew how they would pan out. We always put good parties on but because they were mostly illegal back then and we never knew if we were going to be shut down or not, those times were pretty nerve racking. Financially I remember those times being difficult too.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a club night?

Have passion and drive, it’s definitely not always rosy and be prepared for a lot of hard work, but once you’ve created something, a buzz, you’re halfway there.

The first nofitstate compilation was released recently, what can you tell us about it?

The idea behind the mix was to show what happens on the night. The music is quite varied and shows different tempos. It’s been a huge learning curve.

The nofitstate parties are on a much smaller scale compared to Mulletover, did you feel the need to do more intimate events?

I do yeah. I like to have intimacy.

What’s next in the pipeline for you?

Kruse & Nuernberg ft. Nathalie Claude ‘More and More’ (Geddes remix) on Kolour Recordings, Waifs & Strays ‘3am’ (Geddes remix) on Leftroom, and Geddes & Matt Tolfrey ‘Untitled EP’ on Air London.

What are your current top 5 tracks?

1. Moodymanc ‘Black Paint’ (Larry Heard’s After Dark mix)
2. Simon Baker ‘No Pressure’
3. Benjamin Fehr ‘Stay At Home, Read A Book’ (Roman Flugel remix 2)
4. Craig Torrance & Finn Cassy ‘Train To Atlantis”
5. Hugo Barritt feat Robert Owens ‘You Are’
