Scottish singer/songwriter, Lou Hickey is set to re-launch retro club, “Too Darn Hot” next weekend in Glasgow.

Previously, one half of Codeine Velvet Club alongside former Fratelli, Jon Lawler, Lou has released two EPs in her own right and is due to release her debut solo album very soon. A “vinyl-friendly” club DJ and much-loved performer at Club Noir, Lou Hickey is one of Glasgow’s favourite musicians.

We spoke exclusively to her ahead of this exciting re-launch next week . . .

For those who don’t know, what is “Too Darn Hot”?

It’s an eclectic, retro monthly club night with a speakeasy vibe, based in Blackfriar’s Basement in Merchant City (Glasgow). I DJ along with Tony PopRock. Musically, it’s a mix of Rock ‘N’ Roll, Big Band Swing, Retro Pop and Rhythm and Blues. It’s all about the music!

How often is it on?

It takes place on the first Friday of every month in Blackfriar’s. Our launch night is on Friday 2nd November 2012 followed by a night on 7th December 2012. It’s £5 entry.

How did it originally come about?

I was originally approached by another venue in Glasgow to start a “vintage” stylish Club Night. It didn’t work out but I felt that we had something different to offer the Glasgow Club Scene so we’ve been waiting for the right venue to come along and thankfully, we found Blackfriars.

What can people expect from the re-launch next weekend?

To kick it off with a bang, myself and my band are going to play a set with a mix of my own material and some rockabilly and soul covers. Expect lots of dancing and lots of Gin! There’s no dress code but bring your dancing shoes!

“Too Darn Hot” relaunches in Blackfriars (Merchant City) on Friday 2nd November 2012.
