It’s A Wonderful Life

The 1946 classic film is on silver screens at both Cineworld and Glasgow Film Theatre this festive season. It tells the story of George Bailey (James Stewart) who, tired of life, is contemplating ending it all. However, guardian angel, Clarence  is sent to show George how different life would be in his community if he hadn’t been around to impact the lives of so many others. A Christmas classic.

Black Nativity

This contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes’ celebrated play tells the story of a teenage boy from Baltimore who is sent to New York to spend Christmas with grandparents who he barely knows. The true meaning of Christmas is unveiled in this movie with a little help from a cracking Gospel-inspired soundtrack and stars Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Mary J Blige. Showing at Cineworld, Showcase and Vue cinemas.

Elf

Directed by Jon Favreu, this 2003 Christmas comedy returns to the cinema and stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, an Elf sent from The North Pole to The US in search of his father and true identity. This madcap comedy was a hit with audiences upon release and co-stars Zooey Deschanel. Now showing at Glasgow Film Theatre.

The Muppets’ Christmas Carol

The world famous Muppets are also putting their mark on the Dickens classic at Cineworld and Glasgow Film Theatre this holiday season, with Michael Caine playing Ebeneezer Scrooge alongside Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy and Gonzo, among many other favourites. This 1992 masterpiece is one of  many adaptations of Dickens’ classic Christmas tale, but a must for kids and adults alike this Christmas.
