The 2014 version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” got its World Premiere on The X Factor last night. 

The latest version of “Do They It’s Christmas?” has reworked lyrics to reflect the Ebola crisis, including the subtraction 0f Bono’s notorious line, “Well tonight, thank God it’s them, instead of you” and features One Direction, Rita Ora, Olly Murs, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Chris Martin, Emeli Sande and Sinead O’Connor.

Band Aid 30 marks 30 years since the original 1984 version released to combat the famine in Ethiopia and was the catalyst for Live Aid which took place on 13th July 1985

The official video for the single was introduced by Geldof on The X Factor and included some short, but harrowing footage of Ebola in full effect; a decision that Geldof said he had agreed with Simon Cowell in order to let viewers understand what the magnitude of the disease. Geldof made a passionate plea to viewers to buy the single, not to download it for free “This is hardcore, to allow X Factor nation to watch this. This is the most anti-human disease but we can stop it and we will stop it”.
