Gigs This Week
King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut is the place to be this weekend as their annual “New Year Revolution” kicks off! Thursday (15th January) will see Bad Luck taking the centre stage with support from Schnarffschnarff, Pinacy and Twin Mirrors. Friday (16th January) will feature The Moon Kids, The Alter-Natives, and Lionel rocking the Glasgow crowd as a warm up bid for headliners, Jakil. “New Year Revolution” concludes with Dead Electric, Model Jet Pilot and The Sea Kings who will get the crowd in the mood for headliners, The Lonely Together. ALL of the bands that are playing the intimate venue are from Scotland, making it an ideal opportunity to meet your new favourite home-grown band, up close and personal.
As if King Tut’s was spoiling the Glasgow gig-goer enough this coming weekend, Welsh post-hardcore rocker, Funeral For A Friend are scheduled to play to an intimate crowd on Sunday (18th January). The band are currently on their UK tour; seventh studio album, “Chapter And Verse” is due to be released on Monday 19th January 2015.
Here’s hoping that Glasgow’s hottest new venue are insured in case of face-melting rock mayhem because Slipknot’s “Prepare For Hell” Tour hits The Hydro this weekend (Sunday 18th January). The band are out in force in support of latest LP, “5 : The Gray Chapter”, their first release since drummer, Joey Jordison parted company with them and the tragic death of bassist, Paul Gray in 2010. Corey Taylor and Co are renowned for their crazy live performances (which have included hundreds of stage dives and a LOT of head banging) and their unique image; each member dons a different mask and boiler suit while onstage. If this wasn’t enough, fellow metal acts Korn and King 810 will also be performing.
Hip hop pop star, Jessie J will be bringing her sassy style to Glasgow next week when she plays The 02 Academy on Wednesday 21st January. Jessie made a triumphant return in 2014, largely thanks to summer smash, “Bang Bang”, her sizzling collaboration with new pop starlet on the block, Ariana Grande and rap diva, Nicki Minaj. Jessie J is out on tour in support of her third studio effort, “Sweet Talk”.
