Gigs This Week
Welsh, six-piece The Blackout will be rocking out this Thursday evening (26th March 2015) at The Garage. Last December, the post-hardcore band announced they were splitting up and that their current tour will be their last. Throughout their 12 year career, the band have had a string of successful hits and they released their final EP, “Wolves” last year.
Dundonian’s The View can be found at The Barrowland Ballroom this weekend (Friday 27th March 2015). Kyle Faclconer and Co recently released, “Marriage”, the lead single from forthcoming LP, “Ropewalk”, produced by Albert Hammond Jr and scheduled for release in June.
Girl of the moment Charli XCX will be live at Glasgow’s Queen Margaret Union on Friday (27th March 2015). The English singer/songwriter launched her career in 2008, aged just 14, but didn’t get her breakthrough until 2012 when she featured on Icona Pop’s catchy single, “I Love It”. Since then, she has collaborated with Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea, supported The Ting Tings, Katy Perry, Coldplay and Ellie Goulding on tour and released her second LP, “Sucker” in December 2014.
The Stranglers will be at Glasgow’s 02 Academy this Saturday (28th March 2015). The band, who formed in 1974, are playing 18 UK dates as part of their “March On Tour”. The Stranglers have released 17 studio albums throughout their career, the most recent being 2012’s “Giants”.
Glasgow’s own, Gun will be closing their current tour at The Barrowland on Saturday (29th March 2015). The band are playing their 1989 debut, “Taking On The World” in full, as well as hits both old and new. The band released their latest LP, “Frantic” earlier this year.
The Vaccines will be at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket on Sunday (29th March 2015) ahead of the release of third studio album “English Graffiti” due for release in May. It follows their debut, “What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?” and 2012’s “Come Of Age”.
American metal-core band, Of Mice & Men will be found at The Barrowland on Monday (30th March 2015). The Californian quintet’s latest single “Broken Generation” was released last month, taken from their 2014 LP, “Restoring Force” which also features the tracks, “You’re Not Alone” and “Would You Still Be There?”.
Fellow Californians, Rival Sons will also be in Glasgow next week; they play Glasgow’s 02 Academy on Monday 30th March 2015. Formed from the ashes of band, Black Summer Crush, the band released their debut album, “Before The Fire” in 2009. Rival Sons released the latest LP, “Great Western Valkyrie” last June.
Former Beach Boy, Brian Wilson will be live at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow on 27th September 2015. Following a hugely successful career with the Californian surf pop band, Wilson released his self-titled, debut in July 1988. Support comes from Edwyn Collins and America. Brian Wilson releases brand new album, “No Pier Pressure” next month.
X Factor success story (despite NOT winning), Ella Henderson has unveiled plans for her debut headline tour later this year, including a date at Glasgow’s 02 Academy on Thursday 29th October 2015. The singer/songwriter will have a golden opportunity to warm up her Glasgow audience when she supports Take That in May at The SSE Hydro.
Old-school, Brit rockers, Squeeze have announced their first UK tour in 3 years for later this year, including a gig at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on 23rd October 2015. The band are due to headline The Wickerman Festival in Dumfries & Galloway in July.
Killers frontman, Brandon Flowers has announced a string of UK dates for May 2015, including a gig at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Monday 25th May 2015, his ONLY Scottish date. This week, Flowers unveiled brand new track, “Can’t Deny My Love”, the lead single from his second solo LP, “The Desired Effect”, due for release in May.
