Gigs This Week
X Factor quitter, Lucy Spraggan is live at Glasgow’s Garage on Friday (8th May 2015). Folk/pop singer/songwriter, Spraggan was the runner up in the Urban, Pop & Acoustic category of Live And Unsigned in July 2011 before coming ninth in The X Factor in 2012; Spraggan was forced to quit the reality TV talent show over illness. Spraggan released third LP, “We Are . . .” this week. Support comes from Kal Lavelle and Kerri Watt.
The TV talent continues on Friday (8th May 2015) over at 02 ABC2 with pop quartet, Only The Young. The band; made up of two girls and two boys, came seventh in the 2014 series of The X Factor.
Glasgow’s very own homegrown talent, Twin Atlantic make their SSE Hydro debut on Saturday (9th May 2015). Formed in 2007, the four-piece band have released three studio LPs, the latest being, “Great Divide”, released in August 2014.
Norwegian, all-girl group Katzenjammer are bringing their blend of fairground burlesque inspired folk, pop and gypsy punk to Glasgow’s Oran Mor on Saturday (9th May 2015). The band released their third LP, “Rockland” in January of this year.
British punk duo, Slaves are at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut this Sunday (10th May 2015). The pair are scheduled to release their debut offering, “Are You Satisfied?” next month, it follows their 2012 EP, “Sugar Coated Bitter Truth”. Support comes from Babystrange and Crows.
American duo, Twenty One Pilots are live in Glasgow this week; the pair, from Ohio, are at 02 ABC2 on Monday 11th May 2015. The band release their fourth studio LP, “Blurryface” later this month.
Electro-pop outfit, Hot Chip are at The Art School in Glasgow next week (Tuesday 12th May 2015). The band, who formed in 2000, are set to release their sixth album, “Why Make Sense?” on Monday 18th May 2015.
Scottish singing sensation, Lulu will be showcasing the best of her 50 year career at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall next week (Tuesday 12th May 2015). Originally from Dennistoun in Glasgow, Lulu is best known for her hit, “Shout”, her take on an Isley Brothers song. Lulu released, “Making Life Rhyme” in April of this year; the first new material from the singer in over a decade.
02 ABC plays host to The Maccabees on Tuesday 12th May 2015. The band, from Brighton and London, formed in 2004 and are scheduled to release their fourth LP later this year. Lead single, “Marks To Prove It” is due for release next week.
Brit Pop has been resuscitated for the iPod era! Blur are back! Arch rivals of The Brothers Gallagher have unveiled plans to play 3 very special UK shows later this year. The band are currently at Number One in The UK Album Chart with, “The Magic Whip”, their eighth studio album and the first new material from the band since 2003’s “Think Tank”. Blur will be live at The Barrowland in Glasgow on Tuesday 9th June 2015.
