Rap superstar, Missy Elliot broke the internet yesterday when she dropped the video for her brand new single, “WTF (Where They From?)”. The track, featuring Pharrell, is the first single from Misdemenour in 3 years.
“WTF (Where They from?)” is a promising taste of things to come; Elliot hasn’t released an album in 10 years. 2005’s “The Cookbook” was her sixth studio effort and featured the singles, “Lose Control”, “Teary Eyed” and “We Run This” as well as collaborations with Ciara, M.I.A and Mary J. Blige. The Virginia-born rapper and record producer got a good idea of how much she’s been missed when she joined Katy Perry’s Superbowl Half-Time Show slot in February 2015 and completely stole the show from the California Gurl with a megamix of her hits.
Missy Elliot began her career with R&B all-girl group, Fayze (who later became Sista) in the early 1990s. The band released just one album, their 1994 debut, “4 All The Sistas Around Da World”; Elliot launched a solo career, releasing her debut LP, “Supa Dupa Fly” in July 1997. Misdemeanour went on to release another 5 studio albums to date and has enjoyed a string of hits, most notably, “Work It”, “4 My People”, “Get Ur Freak On”, “Lose Control” and “One Minute Man”.
2016 is gonna be a BIG year for Misdemeanour! Good to have you back, Missy!
