This year I will finally pop my festival cherry with the highly anticipated arrival of Download 2012.

For nearly 6 months now I have waited anxiously by my computer going through the countdown in my head and anticipating the next acts to be announced for the festival.

My decision was made on Download festival as soon as the headliners were announced; The Prodigy, Metallica and Black Sabbath.

Never in my life would I have thought I would be able to see any of these bands perform and now that I have a chance to see all three of them in one weekend is all the more reason why I decided to choose Download as my first festival.

Over the past few months, more and more acts have been announced and the line up has just got better and better!

Almost all of my favourite bands are playing this year, including Rise To Remain, Trivium, Machine Head and As I Lay Dying, not to mention a lot more A-list artists such as Slash, Biffy Clyro and Europe (no doubt the entire festival will be eagarly waiting the performance of The Final Countdown!)

There are hundreds of different festivals for Metal and Hard Rock bands out there such as Sonisphere, Blood Stock and Wakken Festival but Downlaod truly is the “Mecca of Metal” and one you MUST experience.

As I mentioned, a lot of my all time favourite bands are playing as well as a lot of big named acts that you have to see at least once in your life. However, more than anyone else, the band I’m most looking forward to is Metallica.

Metallica is, without a doubt, one of the biggest metal bands in music history!

For over 30 years, they have dominated arenas all over the world and played big festivals such as Ozz Fest and Monsters of Metal (which was the original name of Download). This year they will be performing The Black Album in its entirety; the album which signified their place in Metal history with iconic songs “Enter Sandman”, “Nothing Else Matters” and “Sad But True”.

This will be one of my only chances to see Metallica live and it couldn’t have been at a better place than Download festival.
