Blur @ T In The Park 2009/Kimberley Manderson

My favourite festival experience was at T in the Park 2009.

Blur closed the festival and despite arriving on stage more than half an hour late, put in an amazing performance. Their lateness worked out well for me as I managed to catch my friend’s brothers band – now known as Admiral Fallow – play the T-Break Stage.

The whole festival had been completely dry and sunny (I’m sure you’ll appreciate how rare that is in central Scotland!) and watching Blur play as the sun disappeared ensured that the entire crowd were on top form!

As anyone who has been to TITP knows, a lone piper accompanies the closing fireworks display to mark the conclusion of the festival and the atmosphere at that point – no matter who played last or what stage you were at – is just epic.

Utah Saints @ Wickerman Festival 2009/Tess Rose Askew

Utah Saints at the Wickerman Festival in 2009 is my favourite festival experience by far!

They were given the slot just after the burning of the Wickerman, which is another personal festival highlight of mine, truth be told.

The burning of the Wickerman is a surreal event to experience but an exciting and atmospheric one and as it was coming to an end, the crowd all collectively made their way to the main stage to watch Utah Saints play their headline set.

Utah Saints are perfectly matched to a Saturday night headline slot due to the music they produce and the whole crowd came together to enjoy a mass rave-off, Wickerman still burning from behind. I’ll never forget that set!
