The nominations for the annual Brit Awards were unveiled yesterday.

The ceremony, to be held at London’s 02 Arena next month, will be hosted by “Gavin & Stacey” actor, James Cordon, for the third year running.

Synth-rock band, Bastille and singer, Ellie Goulding lead the nominations. Bastille have been nominated in “Best British Group” and “British Breakthrough Act” as well as “Best British Single” for hit track, “Pompeii” and “Best British Album” for their debut effort, “Bad Blood”. Ellie Goulding has been nominated in “Best British Female” catergory alongside Jessie J, Laura Marling, Birdy and Laura Mvula. The 27 year old has also gained a nomination for her number one smash-hit single, “Burn” in “Best British Single” catergory.

Rock legend, David Bowie, who celebrated his 67th birthday this week, has also picked up two nominations; “Best British Male” alongside young pretenders, Jake Bugg, James Blake, John Newman and Tom Odell, and “Best British Album” for his latest studio offering, “The Next Day”, his first studio album since 2003’s “Reality”.

The international catergories look set to generate some good old-fashioned competition with Katy Perry, Lorde, Lady GaGa, P!nk and Janelle Monae battling it out for “Best International Female” and Bruno Mars, Eminem, Drake, John Grant and Justin Timberlake all anchoring to be named “Best International Male”.

King Of Leon, Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Haim Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis all nominated under “Best International Group” in one of the toughest categories of the competition.

Both “Best British Video” and “Global Success” categories will be awarded at the ceremony while BBC’s Sound Of 2014 winner, Sam Smith was named “Critics Choice”.

The Brit Awards 2014 will take place in London on 19th February 2014.
