Glasgow is turning out to be the hottest ticket for summer 2014 with some of the biggest names in music performing at Glasgow Green later this month. Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be hosted in the city for the very first time and our playlist is guaranteed to get you in the mood . . .

Coldplay “Magic”

Confirmed as one of the main headliners for Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Coldplay are definitely the act you don’t want to miss out on! “Magic” is the leading single from the band sixth studio album “Ghost Stories” and was released in March of this year.  It had been announced that six intimate shows will be placed in six different cities across the world to mark the release of the new album, the last of which will be in London on 1st July.

Calvin Harris “Feel So Close” 

Being Scottish himself, Calvin Harris is one of the locals that will be headlining the event.  “Feel So Close” is a single taken from Harris’ second studio album and debuted at number two in the UK singles chart back in 2011.  The Scotsman will also be returning to the festival scene in summer where he is due to headline T In The Park.

Lorde “Royals”

The number one hit “Royals” by the 17 year old who has taken the world by storm with her music was officially released last year on her debut EP “The Love Club” and has sparked her musical career off perfectly.  Lorde is definitely the person turning heads across the world right one with her unique voice and rapidly growing fan base.  The future looks bright for this young artist and her debut album “Pure Heroine” is available now.

Twin Atlantic “Heart And Soul”

Originally from Glasgow and involved in the festival scene worldwide these alternative rockers will definitely be at home. “Heart And Soul” is the most recent single to be released by the band and their third studio album “Great Divide” is set to be released in August of this year.  Twin Atlantic have announced that they will be playing four intimate shows later this month in the Scottish Highlands to preview material from their upcoming album and will also be playing at T In The Park this summer.

Katy Perry “Dark Horse” 

The third release from the California girl’s fourth studio album “Prism”, “Dark Horse” has been a massive success worldwide with significant radioplay here in the UK.  The female artist has also said she is excited to see Scottish band CHVRCHES while playing the event.  Just before the Radio 1 event this month, Katy will be bringing her Prism World Tour to Glasgow’s SSE Hydro.

Kings Of Leon “Molly’s Chambers” 

“Molly’s Chambers” was the second single to be taken from the Tennessee rockers debut offering, “Youth & Young Manhood” all the way back in 2003. This song expertly displays the roots of the bands musical style and even after ten years is still a show stopping track.  The four men are scheduled to return to Glasgow in June to play the SSE Hydro as part of the Mechanical Bull Tour following the release of their sixth studio album last year. 

Kasabian “Club Foot”

Coming from the British Rockers’ self-titled debut, this track is certain to get the crowds going and delivering a good show is something Kasabian do expertly. It was also recently announced that band will be playing a three-date Scottish tour, performing in KilmarnockDunfermline and Dundee“48:13” is running time and title of the fifth album by the band, due for release in June

You Me At Six “Cold Night”

This is the latest single to be released from You Me At Six and taken from fourth studio album “Cavalier Youth” which is available now and went straight to number one in the UK album chart. Earlier in the year, the UK Youth Tour was brought to Glasgow and an extra date had to be added at the O2 Academy due to tickets selling out almost immediately. These Surrey based rockers are not shy in expressing their love for the Glaswegian crowds’ enthusiasm and rowdy behaviour with the five men jumping at the chance to perform at T In The Park later in the year saying it would be a pleasure. 

Rita Ora “How We Do (Party)”

The number one hit that will definitely get the party going taken from Rita’s 2012 debut album “Ora”. The second studio album by the young Brit is said to be finished after a year and a half of work and will hopefully be released within the upcoming months.  It was revealed that Ora has teamed up with boyfriend Calvin Harris in the leading single from the album called “I Will Never Let You Down”.

Ed Sheeran “The A Team”

The debut single from Sheeran which magnificently launched his musical career on 2012 coming from the album “+”. Ever since the album was released, Ed has been successful across the world and already has a large following of dedicated fans.  He will be returning to Glasgow’s SSE Hydro in late October for a headline tour and also is confirmed as a headline act for T in the Park. Second studio album “X” is set to be released in June.
