The Maze Runner

Based on James Dashner’s 2009 novel of the same name, this film is the first instalment in the Maze Runner series. Awaking with no recollection of who he is, 16 year old Thomas finds that he has somehow been transported to an elaborately complex maze. There he meets a group of other boys who have also found themselves there, forming a society within the confines of their labyrinthine dwelling. A film with an abundance of energy, The Maze Runner is a must see for those who enjoyed The Hunger Games. With a cast whose faces can be recognised from the likes of Game Of Thrones and Skins, this film showcases a variety of young talent.

Set in Belfast in 1971 at the beginning of the conflict, this thriller stars Jack O’Connell as Gary Hook, a British soldier who becomes separated from his unit during a riot. Prepare to feel the suspense and anxiety of not knowing whether Gary will safely return to his barracks before being caught by the IRA. A gripping, tense watch that highlights the brutality of life in Northern Ireland during this time with an incredibly convincing performance from O’Connell, it’s no wonder that numerous publications have already dubbed ’71 as one of the best films of the year.

In keeping with his previous (and highly praised performance of) role as drug kingpin,Walter White, Bryan Cranston has confirmed that he is to star in The Infiltrator as customs agent Robert Mazur. In true Cranston tradition, this character also has a drug-smuggling, money-laundering alias. Further casting is yet to be announced, but with Cranston already on board, good things are to be expected. Those missing the debauchery of Breaking Bad and Cranston’s incredible performance certainly have something to look forward to with this forthcoming movie!
