If you haven’t yet heard of Cut Throat Razors, the chances are it won’t be long until you do. This exciting and expansive Glasgow ensemble drop their brand new EP, “Motown’s Lost Its Soul”, and it’s an absolute belter!

Certainly one for any fans of ska and funk, the bassy vibes and treacle-like melodies are enough to catapult you into a dream world. Kicking things off with the eponymous track, this 11 piece outfit each have their own place and purpose, adding a distinct flavour to the track, whether that’s from their instrumental or vocal contribution. Vocals blend well together in harmonies but almost have an eerie quality, which only adds to the sentiment of the song.

“She’s My Baby” is more of a bluesy number, still with horns present. The repetitive chorus, which is essentially just the song title repeated a few times, is sure to get stuck in your head for days. A thoroughly 60s affair, this track wouldn’t be out of place 50 years ago. With lots of retro vibes, you’ll want to dig out your best miniskirt and start shimmying. “Beautiful Day” is certainly the strongest and most upbeat track on the EP, and will surely have you hankering for the longer nights and warmer days of summer. The energy of the chorus, plus the upbeat melody makes for a totally joyous listening experience; one which could only be bettered by seeing the band perform this track live.

With so many members, each track comes with its own distinct layers, offering room for keyboard leads, bluesy guitar instrumentals and of course, time for those horns to shine. If you too think that “Motown’s Lost Its Soul”, and you’re looking for something fresh and new from the Glasgow music scene, The Cut Throat Razors are your ska-soaked salvation.
