Who knew that the mariachi movement of Mexico married so perfectly with the Mancunian misery of Morrissey?

Taking the best of Morrissey and the band with which he made his name, Mexrrissey took to the stage in front of a packed house at Glasgow’s 02 ABC last Wednesday, and it didn’t take long for the frost of Sauchiehall Street to melt away thanks to this upbeat, vibrant twist of a tribute.

Delivering a blistering set that doubled as a Spanish lesson, Mexrrissey put their spin on classic solo and Smiths tracks, including, “Cada Dia es Domingo”, “El Primero del Gang”, “Ask”, “Panic” and “Estuvo Bien”, to the delight of the crowd who danced, flounced, swayed and sang-a-long in bi-lingual unison.

Mexrrissey is more than a a Mexican spin on Manchester’s finest, it’s a reminder that the legacy of both The Smiths and Morrissey transcends time, genre and even language.
